Samsung, a manufacturer of CRT and TFT displays, introduced its new 15″ SyncMaster 151v ($399 after mail-in rebate) and the 17″ SyncMaster 171v ($649 after mail-in rebate). The new 151v and 171v are the latest addition to Samsung’s line of flat-panel monitors and replace the existing 15″ 570v and 17″ 760v. Both new monitors are currently shipping.

The 151v and 171v feature a slim new design and a sleek black cabinet and incorporate built-in power adaptors that eliminate the need for bulky power bricks. Also, the company says that the 151v and 171v consume less than one Watt of power in the power off mode.

The new 151v and 171v are designed to take advantage of image scaling and feature Samsung’s improved auto adjustment features. The 151v features a 330:1 contrast ratio, 1400/1200 viewing angle and maximum resolution of 1024 x 768. It weights 8.8lbs. The large-screen 171v offers a 350:1 contrast ratio, 1500 /1250 viewing angle and 1280 x 1024 maximum resolution.

The new 151v and 171v offer USB capability via an optional USB Hub. Samsung’s self-powered USB Hub includes four downstream ports and one upstream port and allows up to 127 USB peripherals to be connected to the PC through the monitor.

Samsung’s 151v and 171v monitors include Natural Color software. This software is designed to calibrate colors so those that appear on the monitor are consistent with those in the original images.

Both SyncMaster displays meet the TCO ’95 standards for low emissions and incorporate a four-stage (On, Stand-by, Suspend, Off) power management system that complies with the VESA DPMS, NUTEK and Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star standards for energy efficient reduced power consumption.

The 151v and 171v have built-in Plug and Play capability that conforms to the Video Electronics Standards Association’s (VESA) Display Data Channel (DDC) Type 1/2B standards. Plug and Play automatically configures the monitor with the host computer and selects the optimum resolution and refresh rates.

Samsung backs its SyncMaster displays with a three-year CRT, parts and labor warranty as well as toll-free technical support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and an Advanced Replacement Program.
