PCmag@Work: Free Wi-Fi Planning Tool From Aerohive
Aerohive has introduced a new version of its free online tool for Wi-Fi network planning. Upload a floor plan or dimensions and it will show you where to place access points.
“One of the trickiest of tasks when building a wireless network for a business, is determining the ideal locations for access points. Proper placement is strategic for optimum and wide-spread coverage.
Aerohive Networks, has recently launched a free, new version of its web-based planning utility for Wi-Fi deployments. The latest Online Wi-Fi Planner Application provides a new, more intuitive user interface (UI) and AP auto placement. After uploading a map or defining a perimeter and drawing in walls, the auto placement feature can be used to automatically place APs to provide coverage with specified signal strength, transmit power and AP type. Additionally, users can drag APs around the map to determine coverage impact. By choosing a minimum signal strength required by a phone, this feature enables enterprises to deploy for voice. Clicking auto deploy will also move the user through the planning process much faster.”
