Gateway has introduced a new compact case option for its E-Series managed PCs for businesses and institutions with space constraints. The small form factor Gateway E-2000 and E-4000 PCs are 35 percent smaller than their micro tower equivalents, yet still provide the upgradeability, maintenance and expansion benefits of larger desktop PCs.
Gateway’s anticipated growth of the small form factor market is substantiated by the success of the all-in-one Gateway Profile 4 series. Once a small piece of the company’s total desktop PC sales to business and institutional customers, Gateway Profile 4 sales have increased approximately four-fold since the product was launched in August of this year. Gateway also broke new ground in value and technology with the recent introduction of its four-inch-thin Gateway digital TV and plasma display a new way to share information in a variety of business settings including board rooms, reception areas and sales kiosks.
The Gateway small form factor chassis, available as an option on Gateway E-2000 and E-4000 PCs, provides an all-around option for businesses looking for a small form factor PC that provides power, value, ease of maintenance and functionality. Plus, the new chassis is an affordable option for cost-conscious businesses. It is available as an upgrade for just $40 more than the micro tower case.
Unlike systems from the competition that utilize more expensive slimline components designed for notebook PCs, Gateway says that its new small form factor PCs use industry-standard desktop components. This may enable an organization’s IT department to use the same parts they use regularly for upgrading other desktop PCs in the office
Gateway small form factor PCs come with four bays, while many competitive small form factor PCs provide only three bays. As a result, the new chassis allows users to have a floppy, zip, CD-RW and hard drive. PC users should also appreciate the chassis’ support for external devices with six USB 2.0 ports (two on the front) as well as industry standard audio, video and legacy ports.
The chassis is easy to store and transport with straight sides and no rounded edges. The small form factor chassis is convertible and can be configured either as a desktop or tower configuration. It measures 13.5″ x 4.0″ x 15.5″ inches (HxWxD) in a tower orientation and weighs 20.75 pounds.
