AllBusiness: Why Your Small Business Doesn’t Need A Server

Mackenzie argues that today’s online, cloud-based technology has rendered the concept of on-site servers obsolete – at least for small businesses.

“Does your small business currently run its own servers? If you don’t, then resist the temptation. And even if you do, I’d like to suggest that you turn them off, unplug them, and repurpose them as boat anchors.

Trust me. You’ll get a much better return on your investment that way.

Not everybody agrees with me. Dell, for example, offers all kinds of reasons why a small business should consider “investing” in servers. I think their list shows a lot of imagination, but I don’t buy a word of it.”
